Dr. Lawrence F. Andrews,USA

Dr. Lawrence F. Andrews  is the inventor of the Straight-Wire Appliance System, discoverer of the Six Keys to Normal (Optimal) Occlusion™, and the Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony. In 1989, he authored the textbook Straight Wire, The Concept and Appliance. He is a clinical professor at the University of California at San Francisco, an adjunct professor at West Virginia University, and a visiting professor at Bauru Dental School, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Andrews completed orthodontic training at Ohio State University in 1958. He has lectured worldwide about the 6E Orthodontic Philosophy, and maintains a private practice limited to orthodontics and orofacial harmony in San Diego, CA.

Dr. David S. Carlson,USA

Dr. David S. Carlson completed his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts (1974) and postdoctoral training in developmental biology and craniofacial anomalies at The University of Michigan (1978). Dr. Carlson then became professor at The University of Michigan in the Department of Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, the Department of Developmental & Cell Biology, and the Center for Human Growth and Development (1978-1993).   Dr. Carlson is now Professor Emeritus in Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. Dr. Carlson is distinguished by election as Honorary Member of the American Association of Orthodontists (1990) and as President of the Craniofacial Biology Group of the International Association for Craniofacial Research (1992-1993). Dr. Carlson was honored to be the inaugural Robert E. Gaylord Chair of Orthodontics at (1999-2015).   He is a frequent speaker at major scientific and clinical meetings dealing with craniofacial growth and deformities throughout the world.

Dr. Hyoung-Seon Baik,Korea

Dr. Hyoung-Seon Baik is an emeritus professor in the Department of Orthodontics, Yonsei University School of Dentistry. Dr. Baik was the Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics and General Director of Dental Hospital in Yonsei University as well as the President of the Korean Association of Orthodontists and Korean Cleft Lip & Palate Association. He graduated Yonsei University in 1977 and received his MSD in 1980 and PhD at the same institution in 1986. He was a visiting assistant professor at the University of North Carolina in 1988-89 and visiting professor at the University of Southern California in 2000. of Orthodontics. He has been invited in numerous international meetings as a speaker such as the 85th Annual Meeting of the German Orthodontic Society, the 7th International Orthodontic Congress in Australia, the 6th International Orthodontic Congress in France, the 100th, 101st, 102nd and 105th Annual session of the American Association of Orthodontists. diagnosis. His publications involve topics mainly related to the orthopedic, combined surgical treatment of Class III patients and facial asymmetry patients,3D diagnosis in soft tissue and hard tissue for dentofacial deformity patients, and cleft patients. Dr. Baik currently owns a private practice with his son named ‘Yonsei Baik’s Dental Clinic’in Seoul, Korea.

Dr.Derya Germec Cakan,Turkey

Dr.Derya Germeç Çakan graduated from Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry in 1999 and completed her PhD in orthodontics in 2005. Since then, she has been working as Associate Professor in Yeditepe University Department of Orthodontics and maintaining Craniofacial Orthodontics Clinic. She visited Seattle Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Center as an observer in 2015. Her principle areas of interest are cleft palate, craniofacial anomalies and interdisciplinary treatments. She published several clinical and research articles in national and international journals and wrote chapters in Esthetic and Functional Management of Diastema, Springer International Publishing. She is a member of Turkish and European Orthodontic Society and Turkish Cleft Lip and Palate Association.

Dr. James K. Hartsfield, Jr.,USA

Dr. James K. Hartsfield, Jr. completed his D.M.D. at the Medical University of South Carolina (1981), M.S. in Medical Genetics and Clinical Genetics Residency at Indiana University, M.M.Sc. in Oral Biology and Orthodontics Residency at the Harvard Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine, and PhD in Medical Sciences and Medical Genetics Residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.  Dr. Hartsfield is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, and the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.  He is a Founding Fellow in the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists.  He is on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Angle Orthodontist, and the Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists; and former Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Genetics (2014-2017).  Dr. Hartsfield has been the President of the Society of Craniofacial Orthodontics (1988-1990), and President of the Craniofacial Biology Group of the International Association for Dental Research (2005-2006). Dr. Hartsfield is the inaugural E. Preston Hicks Professor of Orthodontics and Oral Health Research at the University of Kentucky.  He is also an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago; and President of the Angle Society of Orthodontists Midwest Component.  He is a frequent speaker on genetics and orthodontics around the world.

In our orthodontic practice, we all faced situations where we had to accept a loss of control because of unforeseen turn of events .

In this presentation, through the study of a few difficult cases, we will review how to get the best of our accumulated knowledge to avoid traps, as well as the tips and tricks which will help us to reach beautiful finishes in terms of functional occlusion and facial aesthetics.

Dr. Vicki Vlaskalic

Dr.Vicki after graduating from both Dentistry and Masters in Orthodontics at the University of Melbourne travelled to California where she researched and taught at UCLA for 2 years.

She then spent further 6 years in San Francisco, obtaining her California Dental Licence.

In 1997, as Assistant Professor at the Arthur Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Dr. Vlaskalic became co-investigator with Dr. Robert Boyd, (Chairperson) in the feasibility of the Invisalign appliance.

Together, they published the first article on the Invisalign System. Acting as an orthodontic consultant (with no financial interest) for the parent company Align Technolgy, Dr. Vlaskalic first introduced Invisalign to the orthodontic specialty in several countries including the US, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, China and currently the Middle East.

She has researched and published in areas including root resorption and objective assessment of orthodontic treatment outcomes. During her academic career, Dr. Vlaskalic received support from the Australian Orthodontic Society Foundation for Research and Education, and the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation.

Since returning to Australia, she works in orthodontic specialty practice, instructs at the University of Melbourne Department of Orthodontics.
